Data Points
Data points are now a must have - they not only provide internet access but allow most home electronics to function as a combined network rather than a single identity.
A data point is a hardwired Ethernet cable that transfers data from one access point to another. Typically many data points loop back to one centrally located access point.
There are two types of common access points one simply being a face plate on the wall, a great example of this is people who have multiple data points all looping back to a wall plate in the study. A patch cord is then connected from the wall to the modem/router. The second is a junction box, typically located in the garage. In this instance the data cable loops back to the junction box and directly into the modem/router or a patch panel.
Having multiple data points interlinking the internet and electronic devices around the home or office is commonly referred to as a network.

Internet access- Wherever there is a data point in the home or office a patch cord can be plugged into to receive the internet. Hard wired network cable enhances performance delivering the greatest quality as well as the highest of internet speeds.

File sharing- Network file sharing allows photos, documents and music or movie files to be accessed from any computer that is a part of the network. That way anything you do on a lap top is accessible on the desk top computer without having to save copies onto a thumb drive or CD.
Printer sharing - Any computers that are part of the network can be set up to share one single printer. Network sharing also extends to Scanners, web cams and CD burners.
Multi player games- households with multiple PC's connected into the home network can play games together
